Recovery: Out in the Open
Detailing the pain of the Agoraphobic in every day life and the hell of trying to believe that there is a pathway out of this never ending, all consuming, nightmare.
Agoraphobia is an often misunderstood and misdiagnosed mental health issue. I was unable to find any literary help, and indeed any other help, and struggled to understand what was happening to me. Was everyone experiencing the inability to do every day activities? Did everyone else feel they were going to die each day? It seemed not. So why me? The dirth of information and connection drove me to write this book. I was 16 when it disabled me. I am 62 now. So, better late than never!
This is a memoir of my own journey to freedom beginning I childhood and haunting me throughout many decades. The journey became the centre of a recovery programme firstly named ‘Beyond Limitation’ and morphing into ‘Beyond Addiction’ as I grew into my addiction treatment career. This programme has been used in addiction treatment centres both in Australia and the UK.
So this book is for those in a similar struggle. Also for anyone working in the mental health and addiction fields and who want to understand these challenges and gain a genuine insight into the reality that is, the
agoraphobic experience, and one of the individual pathways to change and the ability for anyone to claim their present and their future – even sometimes their past.
A book of triumph over adversity within a never ending story.
